Well, the election is over. President-elect Donald Trump campaigned on a promise to repeal Obamacare. Frankly, I hope he does. But in my opinion, Obamacare is not the biggest fish to fry in the healthcare pond. That fish would be the CMS (the Center for Medicare and Medicaid services).
If Obamacare went away tomorrow, the practice of medicine to most physicians would not change at all. Physicians would still be burdened with the electronic medical record, third-party interference from Medicare, Medicaid and the insurance companies, and the countless regulations that CMS and healthcare administrators love to see implemented.
Remember, they are all bean counters and not physicians. They have never taken a single class at medical school; they have never taken care of a single patient at the bedside; they have never prescribed a single medication; And yet, they have assumed and have been given by default, complete control over the practice of medicine.
This is shameful, and in my opinion it is the physician’s fault as much as it is anybody’s. As physicians, we hold the Trump card (pun intended). Physicians and their patients need to take back medicine and we can only do this by refusing to participate in the “malpractice” that is currently in place. I practice Direct Primary Care. I urge and invite other physicians and patients to do the same, enjoying the freedom to practice medicine together once again.
