One of my favorite old movies is Pollyanna. I never saw it as a child but only when my own children were growing up. My wife had seen it as a young girl and showed it to our kids. A must see for everyone.
I am reminded of it lately because I think people need a boost every once in a while–especially Christians. And unfortunately, I don’t think they get it from the pulpit often enough. In the movie, they quoted President Abraham Lincoln. “If you look for the bad in people, you’ll certainly find it.” Boy does that hit the proverbial nail on the head?!
Are men sinners by nature? Yes. Do they need to be reminded of it every minute? No. John 3:17 “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.”
Men don’t need false hope in their own good works or efforts to save themselves. But Christians are a different matter. They are saved by grace. They are righteous in God’s eyes. They are His children who alone are invited to call Him Abba, Father (Daddy).
Psalm 5:12 For you bless the righteous O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield. Let’s don’t wallow in what we were but instead rejoice in what we are through Him.
Celebrate the advent of Our Savior Jesus Christ. So Merry Christmas Brothers and Sisters in Christ. God delights in you.
