My mother always said, “Everybody brings happiness, some by coming and some by leaving.” Each of us has to decide which one of those persons we want to be. Â
Even Jesus agreed. Matt 22:37-39 says it all. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it. ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Recently, I have been surrounded by people who seemingly relish in the art of trying to make life miserable for everybody else. It is truly the apparent purpose of their existance. Rather than trying to be a part of a solution, they make it their directive in life to be the source of trouble instead.
Of course, that makes the rest of us stay up half the night stewing about it. I believe this is a natural reaction of our defensive mechanisms. But I wish it didn’t have to be that way.
Let’s all agree to take an inventory of how we treat our neighbor. Love your neighbor as yourself. Do you want peace? Then be peaceful toward others. Do you want to be happy? Then spread happiness to those around you.
Be one of those who brings happiness by coming rather than by leaving.
