I have had two parents recently report to me that they were threatened by personnel at grocery stores about being turned into CPS (Child Protective Services) because they disciplined their children in public.
Let me first say that there is absolutely NO LAW in our state that prohibits spanking children for disciplinary reasons. The grocery store personnel may not like to see it but they are in the wrong, and in my opinion, they need to be confronted on this issue.
On a personal note, I spanked my children and I am glad I did. Even the threat of corporal punishment helped turn my children into wonderful adults. I believe that is exactly why God created the pain fibers we all feel with a good spanking and why He gave us the following rules of engagement from the Book of Wisdom when raising children:
Proverbs 13:24 Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.
Proverbs 22:15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
Proverbs: 23:13-14 Do not withold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod he will not die. If you strike him with a rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.
Proverbs 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.
I believe the grocery store personnel need to be called on the carpet for their intimidating threats. A good lawyer or the threat of a lawyer directed at the personnel themselves and their supervising manager ought to do the trick.
