More than a few times a year, I have the opportunity to travel across the state from Yakima to Pullman. Washington State University is my first Alma Mater, so there are football games (so to speak)Â and now children and even grandchildren to visit there. This weekend was no exception.
For any of you that have traveled that path, you will remember that there is not much to see between here and there. It is pretty, but you have to look alot closer to the earth. But have you ever noticed how many big black crows there are? That got me to thinking. There is a lot of time to do that on the trip.
God made the black crow for a purpose. It was no accident that he didn’t turn out to become a bird of prey like the hawk or occasional eagle you might also see on the same path. And there is certainly no need for a song bird out there where no one could hear and appreciate the melody.
The crow is a scavenger bird. Its purpose in life is to clean up the dead. And as big as those crows were, there must be plenty of dead out there in the desert. And speeding cars increase that population apparently. And that reminded me of us. Each of us has a purpose for existance. Some soar above the others in regalia like the eagle and the Windsors–and that has its own problems I hear, while others of us do things a lot less regal. Some of us even have the job of cleaning up the dead.
And that’s all OK. So there is a lot to be thankful for as the Thanksgiving season approaches this week. I’ll list a few of mine as I blog this week. Today, I am thankful that each of us were created for a specific purpose. And I am thankful for big black crows.
