I for one have been especially appreciative of the number of our athletes that have taken the attention off of themselves and their accomplishments and have instead drawn attention to the God who gave them the gifts of health and athleticism and the country they went to London to represent.
Whether it was a number of the female track and field standouts or the USA men’s basketball team, the themes of patriotic nationalism and appreciation for God Almighty repeatedly rang out. It was especially verbalized by Lebron James when a reporter confronted him after he helped win the gold medal in men’s basketball.
To paraphrase: This is not about me but these three letters each of us is wearing on our uniform-USA.
And our influence is even greater than initially enumerated. In my opinion, our total medal count exceeds that listed officially. How many other nations have benefited from their athletes who are training in our universities and facilities? Unfortunately, I never heard even one foreign athlete verbalize their appreciation for that.
And they do so at the expense of the American taxpayer and the generous giving of donors to those universities. God bless the USA.
