Recent criticisms of the republican party after the latest elections may be somewhat valid. Take the issue of abortion for example.
Apparently, the freedom to “do what you want with your own body” supercedes any other reason to spare a baby’s life before it takes its first breath. A sad commentary indeed. But perhaps we conservative do need to explain ourselves from a different light.
As a former board chairman of a crisis pregnancy center (now called Life Choices), I learned that it’s not the mother who usually wants the abortion anyway. That blame needs to be put squarely where it belongs–on the shoulders of the baby’s father or the pregnant girl’s mother.
We need to remind these unfortunate young women that they are being abused not by those of us who encourage carrying the baby to term and then considering adoption as a better alternative to abortion but by those who are shirking their responsibility as fathers and those mothers who are feeling that their newly pregnant daughters are bringing shame to the family.
Conservatives do not want to usurp the personal freedoms of anyone. But we do care for those babies and we are saddened by the terrible and unnecessary loss of life that is destroying the next generation of great Americans.Â
Who really are the bad people here? Is it the conservatives or the negligent men who misuse these young women and then abandon their responsibilities as fathers?
